Avdiivka Coke rebuilds two departments of Avdiivka central city hospital

20 November 2019

Avdiivka Coke Plant (Avdiivka Coke) of Metinvest Group continues the refurbishment of the central city hospital. This year, Surgical and Trauma Departments have been rebuilt. The enterprise's investments amounted to more than UAH 8 million.

The main five-storey building of the city hospital was destroyed by shelling. To keep the medical treatments going, all departments and their staff were moved to an old three-storey building. Moreover, many specialists left the city during the active phase of the hostilities. Only 30% of doctors stayed.

The Avdiivka Central City Hospital is the only health facility in the city providing medical services to the people living both in the city and in the neighbouring areas. Health care services including emergency care are provided to the full extent here. Avdiivka Coke repairs the hospital facilities to help the specialists came back to the city and the patients receive their treatments in comfortable conditions.

New windows and doors along with shower booths, sanitary ware and boilers for hygiene rooms are installed in the renovated departments. Each room is equipped with a fridge, air conditioner and a sink with a hot tap. The plant purchased specialized furniture and equipment, including multi-functional medical beds for the patients and desks for the medical staff, electrical water distilling apparatus, surgery room lamp, air sterilizer, cabinets with germicidal lamps, and a rectoscope.  Sofas are put in the hall for leisure together with a TV and a water cooler dispenser. Every year, more than a thousand patients receive treatment in surgical and trauma departments.

In 2018, Avdiivka Coke donated a modern neurological department to the city. Metinvest investments amounted to UAH 5.3 million.

Roman Peschansky, chief specialist of adult preventive health care department of Health Care Office of Regional State Administration in Donetsk Region:

- This is a European level in terms of materials, design and equipment. I am sure the renovated departments will contribute to the improvement of medical treatment. Both the doctors and the patients will be happy. Today, no state-financed institution can operate without the help of the partners. Such symbiosis between the business and the state is a right thing to have and is very important.

Musa Magomedov, Ukraine's MP:

-  I started this project back when I was the director of Avdiivka Coke. I remember what it looked like then and can see what we have now. It is a top class repair. This is an example of what each medical facility should be like in our country. Unfortunately, today we have serious issues with availability of medical staff in the settlements located at the contact line.  To get the specialists come here, they need to be paid extra for working in special conditions. I hope I will be able to get the attention of the majority of MPs to what is happening at the contact line.

Vitaliy Litovka, the General Director of Avdiivka Coke Plant:

- Despite the deep crisis in the steel industry, Metinvest Group as a socially responsible company continues to deliver its commitments. Avdiivka Coke is a city-forming enterprise. The life of the city is directly related to the operation of the plant. Realising its responsibility, the plant continues to supply heat to multi-storey residential buildings and social facilities in Avdiivka at the rates that are ten times as low compared to the rest of the country. In 2015, we rebuilt multi-storey residential buildings and social facilities that were damaged by direct shelling, and helped rebuild private houses together with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and Military & Civil Administration. Now were focused on developing the city and creating descent conditions for living. Together with the local administration and the community, we join together the efforts to repair schools and kindergartens, modernize the health care system and develop the municipal infrastructure.
