Members of the European Parliament appreciated the environmental program of Avdiivka Coke

23 June 2017

On Friday 23 July, members of the European Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine visited Metinvest Group’s Avdiivka Coke Plant. The visit took place as a part of the environmental monitoring visit by the officials to the region.

The guests visited the main business units of Avdiivka Coke, attended the production process and appreciated the environmental program of the enterprise.

Despite the fact that the plant is located in the active war zone, Avdiivka Coke continues to be concerned with production process environmental friendliness. Over the last three years, the enterprise implemented a number of important environmental projects: reconstructed the sulphate area, built pitch granulation and thermal catalytic afterburning plants. This allowed significant reduction of dust and other pollutants emissions into the atmosphere.

In total, for the period of military actions, Metinvest Group invested UAH 177.4 mln into the environmental activities in Avdiivka.

Nataša Prah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovenia to Ukraine:

“We all read a lot and watched Avdiivka Coke Plant closely when it was under shellfire. I would like to thank the managers of the enterprise and its employees for the detailed explanation of the situation. Enormous efforts can be seen invested into the plant to keep its production process live. And, all environmental threats that could emerge, are under control.”

Petras Auštrevičius, member of the European Parliament from Lithuania, Head of Informal Group "Friends of European Ukraine" in the European Parliament:

“This is an unforgettable experience. A huge plant, which managed to survive despite all the provocative actions from the occupied territories. I would like you to take my congratulations for the great achievement. The plant has the capacity to improve the products and technologies. This is what Ukraine needs – jobs, payments into the budget, international expansion with new products. Both management of the plant and its employees bear heads high.”

Musa Magomedov, General Director of Avdiivka Coke Plant:

“Avdiivka Coke Plant operates in accordance with international environmental standards. Shellfires, lack of gas, industrial water and electricity did not become an excuse for us to lower sights. In 2017, we plan to implement another major project focused on eliminating emissions of harmful substances from the tanks of Coal Tar Processing Shop. Our investment will amount to UAH 3 mln.”
