The restoration of production capacity damaged during active fighting operations is continued in Avdiivka Coke (AKKhZ) of Metinvest Group. Plant workers repaired the damages caused by shell hits in Desulphurization Shop No1.
Desulphurization Shop No.1 was hit by shelling seven times. The greatest damage was inflicted to soda solution regenerator; a shell hit its vacuum tube.
In April this year, the shop was shut down for scheduled maintenance. Plant workers performed cleaning and reconstruction of the main equipment and communication lines, and restored soda solution regenerator. This enabled reducing the hydrogen sulfide content in coke oven gas to levels below the standard and cutting emissions almost by half. Due to the improved removal of hydrogen sulphide from gas, the shop will additionally receive approximately two tonnes of sulfuric acid per day. This substance is necessary for the production of ammonium sulfate, a valuable fertilizer purchased by foreign companies.
Musa Magomedov, the General Director of Avdiivka Coke Plant:
- About 50 coke chemical workers are employed in the division, and its restoration is, above all, guaranteed jobs and welfare of employees' families. Stable operation of the shop allows the enterprise to properly clean coke oven gas, which is used in heating of coke oven batteries and boilers of the combined heat and power plant. Any shortcomings in the operation of desulphurization plant negatively affect the work of all main equipment of coke and chemical process. Here, the repair was of the top priority for us. Restoration work are in progress at the enterprise.
