Metinvest Group's Avdiivka Coke was equipped with a catalytic afterburner to detoxify emissions in the coke-pitch department of the enterprise. Avdiivka Coke invested about UAH 6.3 million in the project.
This catalytic afterburner to detoxify emissions is one of the most modern. The principle of its operation is simple: gases are accumulated on catalyst layers where they get burned until they become non-hazardous. As a result, only safe elements remain in the air – water (Н2О) and carbon dioxide, like in carbonated water (CO2). The new equipment will help purify 93-99% of outgoing gases from the coke-pitch department of Avdiivka Coke.
"Secondary substances that are discharged in the course of coke and chemical production can be harmful to the environment. But we are able to minimize the harmful effect," said Musa Magomedov, Avdiivka Coke's general director. "In 2013, Avdiivka Coke allocated about UAH 17 million for environmental protection measures, this year we are planning to devote over 55 million. “
The creator of this equipment was Vyacheslav Maykov. The first of these units was installed in Zaporizhya. According to the creator, today these aggregates have no analogues in the world and their use at all coke and chemical enterprises is recommended by the A. N. Marzeyeva Institute of Hygiene and Medical Ecology.
