Avdiivka Coke Plant of Metinvest Group has introduced new specifications for the qualitative characteristics of blast-funace coke and launched coke of improved quality. The ash content of enhanced coke was reduced, on the average, by 5%.The sulfur content standard was curtailed to 0.8% for the improved coke and 1.2% for the rest average coke. The rates of hot strength and reactivity were enhanced as well.
Obtained improved coke gets used into a blast furnace with the system of injection of pulverized coal.
Since 2013, the enterprise has strengthened control over the raw material for the coking using the method of forecasting the coke quality. The methodology, developed by research group of Avdiivka Coke Plant central laboratory, was founded on prediction of coke quality by definition of chemical composition of the ash. And on the basis of data the potential ability of raw substance to show their primary properties (index of basicity) calculates.
The improvement of coke qualitative characteristics has been achieved without any rise in cost of a coal mixture for coking (the burden). Currently, higher quality coke is producing on two out of eight coke batteries.
«Thanks to higher quality coke Avdiivka Coke Plant is able to strengthen its positions on the market and enhances its competitiveness. In the short term, our enterprise will be able to increase the level of improved coke output by 60% from the total volume of produced coke «, -- said Musa Magomedov, General Director of Avdiivka Coke Plant of Metinvest Group.
